Autodilution or Flow Thru Cell
This patented option
eliminates the need for manual dilution of concentrated sample.
Autodilution makes particle size
analysis quick and easy, with no training required.
Results are highly reproducible.
High Power Laser Diodes
An array of high power
laser diodes are available to meet the needs of the most
demanding applications.
Higher power lasers are required to
extend the lower limit of the instrument by providing adequate
scattering from small particles.
These are also useful when measuring
particles such as dextrans, which yield insufficient scattering
intensity because of index of refraction properties.
Microemulsions, surfactant micelles,
proteins and other macroemulsions can also be measured using
HPLD’s.
The extent of aggregation of
biopolymers after reconstitution without chromatographic
separation is also possible.
Avalanche Photo Diode (APD) Detectors
The Nicomp 3080 may be
equipped with various high-powered lasers as well as a high-gain
APD which provides approximately seven times the gain of a
conventional photomultiplier tube.
The APS is used to increase the
signal-to-noise and sensitivity in systems that do not scatter
light well.
Proteins, micelles, other
macro-molecular based systems, and nanoparticles are often
dilute (1 mg/ml or less) and are made of atoms that do not
scatter light well.
The APD coupled with a nominally
higher power laser diode module offers a low cost solution for
accurately analyzing nanoparticles in a short period of time.
Channel Photomulitplier Detector (CPM)
A high gain detector that
has approximately four times the sensitivity of a standard PMT.
It also has a very robust design
that allows it to be exposed to high levels of light.
This makes it ideal for applications
where a wide variety of samples will be analyzed.
Multi-angle
Particles larger than
200nm do not scatter light isotropically in all directions.
It is possible to make DLS
measurements more sensitive to certain sized particles by
changing the angle of detection.
The 7030 can be equipped with a
mini-goniometer that in a range from 12- 175 degrees
incrementally moves the optical fiber by 0.9 degrees.
Autosampler
Batch sampling may be performed by adding a
27-sample autosampler module when increased efficiency is
paramount.
Zeta Potential
Electrophoretic Light Scattering is the method by which zeta
potential of charged particles in liquid suspension is measured
in the Nicomp 3080 ZLS.
A small aliquot of sample is placed
in a disposable cuvette and palladium electrodes are then
inserted.
The entire cell is placed into the
Nicomp 3080.
Because of the unique design there
is no need to align the cell to the stationary plane.
Once the cell is placed a simple
slick of the mouse starts the measurement.
Low Volume Analysis
Analysis available in an indexed matched cell down to 40mL.
